Selena Gomez is set to release a new EP in Spanish titled “Revelación” this week. On Tuesday, the 28-year-old Texas native’s April cover for Vogue magazine came out to promote the collection of songs that range from the up-tempo “Baila Conmigo” to the catchy “Selfish Love.” In her wide-ranging interview, the ex-girlfriend of Justin Bieber talked about her recent bipolar diagnosis and how she copes with it, why she wants to shake her Disney image and prove she has a lot to bring to a movie, and what she did to deal with her anxiety and pain over lockdown from COVID-19.

In the interview, she opens up about her time in rehab and how it taught her to listen to her body and mind when she needs help. She also touches on her personal life, including her past relationship with ex Justin Bieber, admitting that it became a spiral of negative thoughts. Gomez was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and discusses how having the information made it less scary for her. To stay healthy, she has stepped away from social media, realizing that it was adding to her stress and anxiety. Despite her success, Gomez maintains control of her posts without the help of a manager.

In an interview with Nadiene Ijewere, the model Isolation spoke about how difficult lockdown has been for her. She admitted that she watches CNN but tries not to do it too much because she is empathetic and cries easily. During quarantine, she cried a lot just for the pain of everyone else. She also felt that the Trump administration was responsible for so many needless deaths. As far as the Black Lives Matter protests go, she initially thought, “Who am I to talk?” and didn’t want to just post a picture and say it’s important. Instead, she wants to learn and figure out people’s pain. Isolation turned over her Instagram account to Kimberlé Crenshaw and Alicia Garza and also interviewed Stacey Abrams for the digital organization She Se Puede.
Creating excitement: Gomez has revealed the track listing for her upcoming EP, titled Revelation, as well as a new album art. According to Abrams, her first engagement with Selena was revealing: “She expressed an honest disengagement with traditional politics while also showing a hunger for solving real, painful problems,” said Abrams. “In that, she embodied the most powerful voter – one who comes to participation because she knows better is both possible and her right.” Gomez also discussed her acting career: “I haven’t even touched the surface of what I wanted to do. I can’t wait for the moment when a director can see that I’m capable of doing something that no one’s ever seen.” As far as being a Disney kid, she shared: “That was my job in a way – to be perfect. You’re considered a figure kids look up to, and they take that seriously there.”
She has already released a music video to accompany her album, which can be seen here in Baila Conmigo. Gomez said, “I think I spent so many years just trying to say the right thing to people for the sake of keeping myself sane…I’m just such a people-pleaser.” However, she hopes Hollywood sees her as more than just a “Disney girl.” Currently, she is shooting Only Murders In The Building with Steve Martin and Martin Short. Last week, Gomez unveiled the track listing for her upcoming EP Revelación and a new article about the album. The songwriter first teased a Spanish-language project in 2011 but made little reference to the idea over the next few years. On January 14th, the performer released the single De Una Vez, which seemingly confirmed suspicions that she was following through with her past statement. That same day, a music video for the song premiered on Gomez’s official YouTube account and received critical praise for its visuals. Further speculation regarding the project was raised when murals featuring various song titles were installed in the coastal Mexican town of Sayulita. The upcoming release will be comprised of seven songs, three of which include features from artists Raúl Alejandro, Myke Towers, and DJ Snake. Revelación is set to be released on March 12th.
