The actress, whose native language is Hebrew, initially felt insecure about acting in English due to not having perfected an American accent. In an interview with GQ, she shared her journey of overcoming this self-consciousness, saying, “I struggled with my accent for a long time. I felt the need to sound more American and was a bit timid about my accent. But eventually, I let go of that insecurity.”
According to her dialect coach, the key was to embrace her accent and be confident in it as long as it was clear and understandable. This advice resonated with her, and she realized that owning her accent brought her a sense of liberation. She added, “Once I accepted that being different is okay and felt comfortable with it, others gradually became more accepting as well.”
Reflecting on it, the 2017 film Wonder Woman proved to be a major success for Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe (DCEU), debuting with an impressive $103.2 million at the box office.
